U.S. Tariffs Are Changing — Here’s What You Need to Know

Anna Nordstrom

Big changes have come to U.S. import rules in 2025, and we want our American customers to know exactly what’s going on. These new tariffs affect the cost of many imported goods — including some of the beautiful, eco-friendly clothing we stock.

What’s Changed?

Earlier this year, the U.S. introduced a baseline 10% tariff on most imports. On top of that, many countries now face much higher “reciprocal” tariffs — basically, if a country charges high tariffs on U.S. exports, the U.S. applies a matching (or higher) rate back.

There’s another major change coming soon:

On August 29, 2025, the U.S. will remove the “de minimis” exemption — the rule that allowed imports under $800 USD to enter duty-free.
This means every order from outside the U.S., no matter the value, will now be subject to tariffs.

Tariff Rates for Where Our Products Are Made

Here’s the current tariff situation for the countries where our products are manufactured:

  • Portugal – 15% (EU member)

  • Poland – 15% (EU member)

  • India – 50%

  • Sri Lanka – 20%

  • China – 30% (for now — could rise later this year)

  • Turkey – 15%

These rates are charged by U.S. Customs at the border — not by us — and are in addition to your order total and shipping cost.

How This Affects Your Order

  • Before Aug 29: Orders under $800 USD may still avoid tariffs (depending on the country).

  • After Aug 29: All orders, big or small, will have tariffs applied.

Example:

  • $150 worth of Portugal-made clothing → $22.50 in tariffs.

  • $150 worth of India-made clothing → $75 in tariffs.

The courier (UPS, FedEx, USPS, etc.) usually collects these fees on behalf of Customs before or at delivery.

*Additionally there will be brokerage/admin fees on top of tariffs.
